Tracing Fee ??? TM Legal

I have a debt being managed by TM Legal (absolutely horrific organisation that are a total shambles) and having paid off the debt they are claiming there is still money to pay. I asked them why there is a difference between what I have (emails and letters confirming the debt) and what they are now claiming it is.

They said it was "fee's" so I asked them to clarify. "Tracing Fee" they said......!!!!!! is a tracing fee ?

I am half tempted to respond to them that if we are adding made up charges I will be adding a "Reading your dumb emails" fee of £500 everytime I have to read one of their emails.

Anyone know what a "tracing fee" is or shall I just chalk it up as them trying a fast one and tell them to stick it where the sun doesn't shine ??

Did they have difficulty in finding you? If so that could be it. If not its a try on.

Did TM Legal contract you with regards to an outstanding debt owed to a third party?
If they did and the third party concerned were unable to find your contact address to try and get payment and they contracted TM Legal to do this, the tracing fee might be the costs incurred by them trying to get hold of you.

They had no problems getting hold of me. They had my details from the original debt owner. This is also the first of them mentioning it. Nothing was mentioned at all when the debt repayment arrangement was set up.
