Hello
Couldn’t find a fourth on VAT questions hope this is ok

A quick question if I may.
I bought an item from an online retailer, reward points are offered on purchases towards future purchases, I used my accrued points towards a purchases.
The item was priced at £114 plus £12 postage, I used points to bring the price down to £63 plus £12 postage £75 total...
But was charged VAT on the non discounted priced of £126
Is this correct ? Many thanks

If the £126 included VAT, then the £63 would reduce it to £63.

If it was £126 plus VAT then the price would be reduced to £88.20.

Have you checked the original price was inclusive of VAT?

    Yes.

It's not a discount, it's another payment method... like CC for some and Debit card for the rest.

Amazon gift cards / Nectar points work the same way.

Unless the retailers Ts & Cs say something else about this?
  • yes its correct

you answered your own question here.

Its not a discount - purchase price was still the £126 - its just you have part paid with loyalty points.
