Brilliant/Northumbria energy merger?

What is really odd is that when I asked Brilliant about these so called cheaper Northumbria tariffs, I was to told to contact Northumbria directly..... so I did by email, and guess what, today that email was answered by Brilliant. Don't get me wrong, I love fish but this smell is overpowering.0

I've had a brief response from Ofgem
They thanked me for my email, which they have raised with various teams within their organisation.
They said other than that they unfortunately could not comment further at this stage, other than asking me to raise a complaint with the supplier as per their complaints procedure.
The problem I have is that the issues I raised have all now been answered by the supplier.
i.e.
1) They indicated they would switch me against my will - they say they won't now
2) That they were going to switch me mid-term to another tariff - they now say they will honour the existing tariff.
3) The supplier claims I will save money by switching - they have now clarified that may not be until after my current tariff ends, but then I will definitely save money because Brilliant Energy will be so expensive if I remain with them.
I would again urge others to report their concerns to Ofgem. They may not seem to do anything about it (although the fact they stated they have raised this now with various teams within their organisation suggests they were taken a little aback at least), and advise you to follow the supplier's complaint procedure, but the more questions Ofgem receive on this Brilliant Energy/Northumbria Energy shenanigans, the more likely they will investigate fully.
Perhaps you could mention the somewhat irregular matter that Brilliant Energy are responding to your questioins to Northumbria Energy - especially when it was Brilliant Energy who said you need to contact Northumbria Energy for the details you asked about.
(attach the emails as evidence, if you are happy to give them to Ofgem)

Well I've had another email from my new friend at Brilliant Energy today.
A little cryptic, but now he seems to say that the emails we all received were actually only 'test emails' sent to a few random customers to test the water for how we responded
Whether Ofgem have been onto them already I can't say for sure, but he indicates he has in any event forwarded my email, or at least the salient points thereof, to Ofgem with his own responses.
Oh, and he's he's also reading this thread in an attempt to understand how to better run his energy companies ... and welcomes all suggestions though whatever channels we wish to express them.0 -
I have received a further communication from Ofgem, this time from the Assistant Manager of Consumer Affairs.
She has confirmed that Euston Energy (trading as Northumbria Energy) are a seperately licenced energy supplier to Brilliant Energy.
She also is now aware of the developing situation at Brilliant Energy, but has declined to comment further at this time on potential non-compliance.
May I urge anyone else who is a customer of Brilliant Energy and is concerned by their activities and/or statements of fact (e.g. the false assertion that "Euston Energy Ltd is a whitelabel partner of Brilliant Energy Supply Ltd.") to contact Ofgem.
I have provided the email address previously in this thread0 -
Just got my renewal email through from Brilliant. Oliver is now apparently the customer service manager. He gets about a bit. There was no mention of the Northumbria re-branding. I went on to their online chat and asked what had happened. Apparently a business decision was taken not to proceed with that..... hmmmm :shhh:0

Developing situation?
I wonder what ofgem meant? That they knew the intention to close Brillant Energy? And for the people behind them to start up yet again*, this time as Northumbria Energy (using the Euston Energy supply licence)?
*Future Energy, Brilliant Energy, now Northumbria Energy (and there also seems to be a URE Energy involved too)
- these guys seem to be keep on trying to do the same thing and expecting a different result than Theresa May! :eek:0 -
As a Northumbria Energy customer have been told I am being moved to SSE as Northumbria have ceased trading. I cancelled Northumbria DD to receive snotty email from them saying they are still trading. Which is it to be and why are humble customers being mis-informed, confused and being unnecessarily worried by people in so called 'control'?0

URE are under now under threat of having their supply licence revoked by Ofgem, apparently for failing to pay £209,013.78 due because of a failure to otherwsie meet Renewables Obligations.
Final order issued 01 May 2019

Following my post above ,an update on URE.
Last week, Ofgem gave 30 days notice that URE electricity supply licence will be revoked effective 14 September 2019, unless it otherwise directs.
