Energy Ombudsman

So having been with TOTO energy 4 months, i got fed up with how abysmally i and other customers were being treated, misleading sign ups, constant telephone and email harrasment, direct debit abuses, in the last instance, being told it was in my best interest that i gave them an extra months payment because it was getting cold, this despite my being £190 in credit , it is just them helping themselves to money they arent entitled to, or theft as i like to call it. So after this and a great deal more i made the huge mistake of making a complaint to the Ombudsman about this company. I filled out the form, and sent it. During the investigative period i kept them updated with new abuses TOTO were doing and provided Evidence. So imagine my surprise when the decision came back, they gave TOTO a smack on their wrist with a £30 customer goodwill payment . I rejected their decision as nothing at all had been investigated and inorovided them with a very long list including the above and much more. 6weeks later, again they insisted i accept their decision or walk away, feeling like i had been forced and railroaded into accepting a very poorly investigated report, i reluctantly agreed. Fast foward a few weeks, TOTO have refused to abide by 2 of the 3 decisions made by the Ombudsman, they in turn are refusing to deal with the company, so im left with an exceptionally poor decision that they themselves are refusing to uphold. I have been forced to sue the company in the County Courts to get my money back, the Ombudsman meanwhile dither in their own incompetence and ineptness, they bring themselves into disrepute be refusing to deal with a company that flatly refuses to abide by decisions made against them. You are left to wonder just what use this organisation is. The complaints link on their site refers to OFGEM, and when emailing them with all the docunents i have, took them 20 days to tell me nothing to do with us. Ask the Ombudsman thenselves for the Email address to raise complaints against them, they refuse to provide it and ignore you. My Advice to anyone reading this, is to not bother complaining about an energy company to them , their service is extremly poor, their decisions are made a mockery of, you will be stonewalled and ignored , you will be made to feel helpless, you will definitely be out of pocket, and any abuses you suffered will continue. The Ombudsman should be dismantled as orgsnisation, it is clearly unfit , its staff are poorly trained at best grossly incompetant at worst, its a shoddy example of cant be bothered ive ever come across. Be Warned.

    I agree. The Energy Ombudsman process means that it is too slow to act when an energy company is behaving badly. To a degree the miscreant energy company has to co-operate with the customer to enable the case to be taken up by the Omnudsman. I found Citizens Advice and OFGEM far more helpful with my difficulties with Economy Energy.
    I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

    Similar complaints have been made many times on this forum.



    If you want a proper investigation into a grievance forget the Ombudsman.

  • Totally agree with you about the Ombudsman. There decision regarding my complaint was literally a copy of what Npower had told them despite me having written evidence contrary to Npower 's story. I also complained to the ICO regarding clear data breaches. Although the ICO agreed their had been breaches by both Npower and the Ombudsman, they failed to take any action.
    Very frustrating for you, a lot of your time wasted together with the unfairness of it all.

    Switch suppliers as soon as yu can.
