mine has the same problems as yours (its one of the older 'fatter' models).
to fix it, you will need to open it up and adjust the laser. there are plenty of guides on the net to help.
i cant be bothered to fix mine as im getting a ps3 soon, so i dont know how hard it is0 -
To adjust the laser properly, you need an oscilloscope and know how to use one. Without it, you're just blindly stumbling in the dark and can bring about the premature death of the laser by over adjustment.
It's not too bad to strip them to get at it and an hours labour at any electronics repair shop will see it fixed.0
