when having a load of lose soil which is on land, and needs to be transported from a to b (permission has been granted to take it from the site)

in a car, in bags,

when using heavy duty rubble sacks (similar size to black bags)

then when using a shovel to fill the bags up, so that they can be transported from place a to place b,

then the bags will be transported in Many trips, to the other location.
(labour intense I know)

The soil is lose ((so does NOT need digging up)

then trying to get an estimate for how long it would take to bag up 100 of these bags ?

(Only the job of filling 100 bags, with a shovel) - NOT including the driving time etc.

Have you done this before? how long did it take you?

(I know it depends on who does it, how strong they are, their stamina etc, but just a rough estimate)

If you have a van why bother with the bags?

Line the van floor with a tarp and just shovel it in, a small van can take a bulk bags worth (0.8 ton). A transit size about twice that.

Much quicker and saves 30 quids worth of bags

Was thinking of getting these white bags:

100 X RUBBLE SACKS WOVEN LARGE EXTRA HEAVY DUTY SAND BAGS

    22" x 33"

    55cm x 85cm

There is a missing dimension, you need all three to be able to work out the volume.

One bit of advice if you are going to use those bags then turn them inside out before you use them, or your spade will catch on the seams they will take an age to fill, they are pretty naff to be honest.

I did a similar job to the one you describe albeit with rubble. I did not use rubble bags but instead used plastic tubs. The problem with rubble sacks is getting the shovel of soil into them without the bag blowing off (when you do the first shovel only ofc) and then the shovel getting caught on the lip of the bag every time, open tubs was a much easier way of doing this and stacked in the car.

Time wise;I filled about 8 tubs put them in the car then took them to the dumping point, rinse and repeat. I did not have to travel far and the job took me about 5 hours, although my wife did help out a bit with filling a couple of tubs while I was dumping.

Just in case anyone is thinking I was 'dumping' in a dodgy way, I was taking them to a permitted rubble disposal point so nothing iffy going on!

They're small. OK for tidying a few bags of rubble but will be really slow to fill. If you can borrow a van large tubs will be much easier or 1 tonne bags filled to where you can still move them.

Is the van tall enough to stand a wheelie bin upright? How heavy is a wheelie bin full of soil?
  • How far do you need to carry the bags each time? I filled two skips this way due to not being able to easily use a wheelbarrow and they get really heavy, really quickly.

To add, a wheelie bin full of soil would be HEAVY!
