Hi all,
FTB on a 100k property! Pretty excited. The agent has my identity, documents etc however I am still yet to appoint a solicitor or conveyancer. Any rough idea on prices? Any way I can shop around and get a CHEAP deal, cheaaaaaaaaaaaaaap.
Or am I being delusional.

When it comes to solicitors, you can have cheap OR you can have efficient and responsive. There'll be maybe £200 difference between the two. Take a look at the Waiting To Exchange thread to see examples of some of the problems caused by going with a cheap but inefficient solicitor whom no one can ever get hold of, and make your choice very carefully.0

Why on earth would you want cheap?
Any sensible person spending that amount of money would prioritise service and competency over cost.0 -

When spending the most on anything you will ever buy ,why cut corners?0 -
I have found the 'cheap' solicitors are just the ones who have managed to exclude the most things of their 'fixed cost' packages. Ultimately I gather most end up charging about the same.
Try and find a reccomendation for a good one. Few people love their solicitors, but at least try and find one that won't make you lose the will to live.0 -
Get a cheap cooker, washing machine or removal man.....
Not a solicitor....don’t skimp on that...whatever you do

If you want to save money on conveyancing, why not just do it yourself? That's the cheapest solution.
Will you end up with problems? Maybe or maybe not.

But if you want to protect your £100,000, then do it properly.0 -
getting a solicitor is not like popping into Aldi/Lidl, you get what you pay for,
If you get cheap, the vendor could be frustrated being held up by YOUR solicitors and drop you"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

You get what you pay for. Spend the pennies.0

Just reiterating what others have said. If you sign up for a cheap solicitor then please don't complain when they don't communicate with you, don't have time to answer your calls etc or miss something Important. You get what you pay for0

There’s plenty of other things you can go cheap on. Solicitors are not one of them.0
