Extra energy/scottish power take over issues
Apologise if this has already been covered. I was an extra energy customer whose contract ended at the end of November just at the time they ceased trading. Ofgem advised at the time not to swap supplier at that time and wait for scottish power to sort out accounts etc. Which I did, they issued me with an account number last week. Normally I apply for my Warm home discount as I'm on long term sick and claim benefits, this I couldn't do as Scottish Power said I'd need an account number. Last week when I got my account number I immediately went to apply for my warm home discount only to find they'd closed applications the week before, I rely on that extra help through the winter.
Do you think it's OK to change supplier now, my account show no history I just have an account number, I believe I was in credit with Extra Energy, Scottish power is not the cheapest supplier for me at present, and if I do change can I submit my meter readings from when Extra Energy ceased trading to my new supplier, as it wasn't my choice to go with Scottish Power, any advise would be much appreciated. Thanks

You will have to pay Scottish Power for the energy that you used whilst you were with them at the tariff that was in force with SP
You can swap suppliers but you'll have to give the new supplier the meter readings on the day that you transfer from Scottish Power to whoever you choose.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
