Just thought I'd provide an update on what happened with the cheques in my opening post.

It all went through okay. My mothers cheque for £5500 cleared in time while her 5k cheque to me also cleared without bouncing.

Now to sort out the LPA with the banks to try and get online access to manage both my parents accounts.
