  • I don't feel this is going to go your way - they have 3rd party cover as required, but that doesn't mean they can't charge you for their losses through your negligence.

The document I have from them says I'm liablefor amounts up to excess value for damage to the rental vehicle, no words about third-party. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but from the information I gathered online it looks like third-party insurance is compulsory for all vehicles in the UK so this damage should be covered by it.

You seem to have a mistaken idea of what third party cover is.

Third party cover is for ant damage you do to another car. Hence the rental company insurance will cover the damage you did to the other car.

It does not mean the other car 's insurance third party cover will cover damage done to the car by a third party

    Their website says
    https://www.easirent.com/rental-terms/
Third Party Liability Protection (TP): Third-Party liability covers the driver’s liability for damage to any third-party property. The hirer is still liable for the excess amount

However they are not allowed to make a profit
You could ask the third party how much to settle with you direct.

Don't forget it won't just be the cost to fix the bumper but also provide a courtesy car and all transportation costs involved, some insurers insist on using their own repair firms which requires a flatbed to transport the car. The costs can easily mount up

I have rented a vehicle from Easirent in Heathrow for one day in early December. During the rental, I happened to touch another vehicle's bumper leaving a small dent on the bumper without even damaging the paint job, and there was absolutely no damage to the rental vehicle. Knowing that 'dent and run' is a criminal offence in the UK, I've left my phone number an reg. number on the other car's windshield (it was parked), and reported the incident to Easirent. Upon vehicle return, they gave me an incident report form to fill out in which I have described the circumstances. Afterwards they told me they need to charge my credit card for 1575 pounds (1500 excess + 75 admin fee) and I refused to provide it, and canceled the card on the same day. They were however able to charge the card in a week or so from another branch of theirs (Easirent Wigan if it makes any difference).
Would you mind sharing how this story ended? Anything that would be useful to know?

Your best bet is to send a PM (private message) to the OP ... they've not been back to this forum since 30 January 2019 at 10:27AM according to their profile.

    Hi,
I had to explain the whole story to the back twice, highlighting the fact that they charged me £1500 for 'accident', without providing any charge breakdown, the fact that there has been no new damage to the rental vehicle (confirmed and signed by them), and the fact that third party liability is insured. In the end, my chargeback succeeded four months later.
