Microsoft OneDrive

Just received the following email and am wondering if this is a scam email,

"Your account will be deleted on 02/03/2019

Your ******@gmail.com personal account has been unused for the past two years, and it will be deleted on 02/03/2019.

Note: This message applies only to your personal OneDrive account. This message doesn’t affect any OneDrive work or school accounts that you may also have.

I use my gmail account daily.

Is this a different account or is it a scam email?

What is a OneDrive account? To my knowledge I don't have on, only my Gmail.com account

OneDrive is the name of the Microsoft cloud storage facility. The Google equivalent is Google Drive.

If you have no knowledge of having a OneDrive account then I would ignore it. If it is legitimate and it gets deleted then it won't be a problem as you have never used it.

Thanks. So in a nutshell my Gmail account is not affected and will still work after 02/03/2019?

Yes. Assuming that the email is genuine, it is only referring to your (presumably unused) OneDrive account.

Gmail is controlled by Google. Onedrive is controlled by Microsoft. The status of one has no effect on the other.

Scam email. I've had the same one to multiple email accounts and only one of them I have MS Onedrive associated with.

I vaguely recall receiving one. I may or may not have set up a one drive account but I certainly never use it so I just ignored the email. I've had others about a picture upload account whose name escapes me and ignored that too. If it is a scam it can't be very effective as I imagine most peoples default behaviour would be to ignore it. If you had such an account and were using it you'd know it was a scam so you'd still ignore it.

I had the same message a few days ago but the yahoo email address used is linked to an old one drive account which I haven't used for ages and I am quite happy for it to be deleted.

I had assumed that it was a valid message but under the circumstances I may check again. I thought that Microsoft were doing a bit of housekeeping and clearing out old accounts.

Wish I'd read this an hour ago. Very stupidly - not the brightest with tech or threats, having received emails over the past month or so, saying Yahoo were updating terms at the end of January, no alarm bells rang when I received one this morning saying I should read the updated terms - I clicked on the link then had to sign in to my account -which I did. I then thought better of it, signed out of Yahoo and changed my password.
At the top of the email - quite faint (from screenshot I took)
    Mail Server ****@whidbey.net
    To ************@yahoo.co.uk ( * instead of names)

Has anyone else received this and been so dim?

At least you did the sensible thing by changing your password. Expect the :spam: to increase though, as a) you've confirmed your email address is real, and b) your address will be on the "gullible" list for a while.

Further to my OP, I have just received the following from Google+ team and am wondering if this is a scam email or will it shut down my Gmail email account?

You've received this email because you have a consumer (personal) Google+ account or you manage a Google+ page.

In December 2018, we announced our decision to shut down Google+ for consumers in April 2019 due to low usage and challenges involved in maintaining a successful product that meets consumers' expectations. We want to thank you for being part of Google+ and provide next steps, including how to download your photos and other content.

On April 2nd, your Google+ account and any Google+ pages you created will be shut down and we will begin deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts.
Photos and videos from Google+ in your Album Archive and your Google+ pages will also be deleted. You can download and save your content, just make sure to do so before April. Note that photos and videos backed up in Google Photos will not be deleted.

The process of deleting content from consumer Google+ accounts, Google+ Pages, and Album Archive will take a few months, and content may remain through this time. For example, users may still see parts of their Google+ account via activity log and some consumer Google+ content may remain visible to G Suite users until consumer Google+ is deleted.

As early as February 4th, you will no longer be able to create new Google+ profiles, pages, communities or events.

See the full FAQ for more details and updates leading up to the shutdown.
If you're a Google+ Community owner or moderator, you may download and save your data for your Google+ Community. Starting early March 2019, additional data will be available for download, including author, body, and photos for every community post in a public community. Learn more

If you sign in to sites and apps using the Google+ Sign-in button, these buttons will stop working in the coming weeks but in some cases may be replaced by a Google Sign-in button. You'll still be able to sign in with your Google Account wherever you see Google Sign-in buttons. Learn more

If you've used Google+ for comments on your own or other sites, this feature will be removed from Blogger by February 4th and other sites by March 7th. All your Google+ comments on all sites will be deleted starting April 2, 2019. Learn more

If you're a G Suite customer, Google+ for your G Suite account should remain active. Contact your G Suite administrator for more details. You can also expect a new look and new features soon. Learn more

If you're a developer using Google+ APIs or Google+ Sign-in, click here to see how this will impact you.

From all of us on the Google+ team, thank you for making Google+ such a special place. We are grateful for the talented group of artists, community builders, and thought leaders who made Google+ their home. It would not have been the same without your passion and dedication.
