Transferring euros to UK bank account

Options
We have sold our house abroad and need to transfer a large-ish amount of Euros to the UK. I've seen Transferwise recommended on this Forum and have just opened an account (awaiting authorisation). NB; our Euro account is in Greece and capital controls mean we can't transfer via our usual currency broker - the money will be sent by our buyer from France.

Has anyone used Transferwise for an amount over 100,000 Euros?

Once the money is deposited, is it best to convert to sterling using a Transferwise GBP account and then transfer to our UK bank account?

Has anyone transferred Euros to UK recently by another method?

The money will be transferred after Brexit (if it happens) so this might be a further complication.

Any advice welcome

    Why do you think that?

Transferwise, like the other currency xfer services, don't offer deposit protection (FSCS or Greek/French equivalent). Simply because of that, I would split the xfer into smaller chunks. Up to £10k will be fine once you are a verified Transferwise customer.

If you want the sum all in one, and 'insured', it might be worth for your buyer to get a quote from their bank in France.

No idea what the transfer rules will be after Brexit, mainly because nobody has any clue as yet what Brexit will actually look like, or when/if it might happen.

When transferring a large sum, the fixed bank charge for sending it (directly Bank to bank) becomes insignificant but the exchange rate is all important. Usually an improved rate can be negotiated with the bank that makes the exchange.

As well as TransferWise, there is Fineco Bank UK for receiving the euros and converting to GBP at a rate very close to the perfect interbank rate.

As for Brexit effect, you can hope for no-deal cliff edge result that makes the pound worth less, giving you more for your euros.
