Will I get away with this? (Student with a non student account)

So I am currently taking a year out of education, I've got my A Levels and I'm just waiting for confirmation to go to university. I'm currently working full time to get some savings before I go to uni. I have a lot of spare time so I've been getting myself organised in every way I can so that I'll have forgotten nothing by the time it comes for me to leave.
I'm opting for a Santander Student Account as I already have an everyday account with them and the 3% interest is the biggest I can find (plus the 4yr railcard is great as I use the trains a lot, and the cashback in shops is nice). I've been into the branch and asked if i can open a student account with another bank as well and they've said I can't. So, no biggy I've been trying to find current accounts to put my own personal money that I've earned into (and not the student loan which will go into my student account) just so that I can manage my money a little easier. (Student loans for essentials and personal money for Christmas gifts, holidays, personal treats etc) As I've been looking round many banks won't let me open a basic current account or a normal current account as I've put that I'm a student and of course they want me to have their student account.
So my question is, (as I am not a student yet) Can I open a current account with a bank saying that I am not a student (because I'm not) and keep the account open and active when I do become a student without getting into any trouble?
