hi there ,
I have my car booked in for it's mot tommorrow (I'll be dropping the car off before the garage or Post office open), but have just realised that my tax actually ran out yesterday.....and the Post office is now closed.........
Is this an instant MOT failure ? am i wasting my time taking it for it's mot ?
TIA

  • Tax isn't part of your MOT. You can be pulled by police because you are not displaying up to date disc. However if you are getting Mot and tax sorted same day make sure you have all your documents for Post Office and in the unlikely event you get stopped at least you can show insurance etc and explain that your taking your car straight to the Mot station.

& if your car fails the MoT & you'll have it off the road for a while (& unable to tax it)

MAKE SURE ... you fill in SORN form, from PostOffice, or with your tax application form, to tell DVLA. Or you'll get an automatic fine £100 for NOT informing them!!

You can drive your car on the road without a valid tax disk if you are taking it to or from a pre booked mot.

yes you need a valid MOT for tax .. but as long as they get a tax disc as soon as they get the mot certificate then they would be ok.. like above one of the above posters has said if they fail the car they have to declare it SORN .. me i would get the work done as quickly as possible then get the tax disc ASAP..
