Car Insurance Claim

Hi :j
My husband recently had a car accident. It wasn't really either person's fault, but because of the side that was hit, they are saying it is his fault.
We exchanged details with the other driver at the scene and all did the right things there.
We informed our insurance company and started a claim. They said somebody was going to come round to our home to assess the damage to see if it was worth repairing.
However, now we have had a phonecall from someone working for the insurance company wanting to take it to Southampton. Thinking back on the original insurance phonecall, they asked my husband to remove anything in the car and the cd player etc. Does this mean they are just going to scrap it without any assessment? Seems a sharp practice.
The car would be a d category at worse but not even that. We could probably get it repaired ourselves. Obviously we want the insurance to pay for the other driver's car. I appreciate the economic issue here that the insurer's have to consider. However, taking it as a write off straight away seems a bit much.
Any ideas or similar experience anyone? Thanks in advance.:)

Whenever you are not happy with your insurance company the route to go down is a complaint in line with their complaints procedure
Then if you are not happy with the reply or they ignore you for 8 weeks you can escalate to the FOS for their adjudication at no cost to you
If you want to keep the car ask if they will let you buy the "wreck" back by way of a deduction from the settlement for it being written off0 -
Thank-you. We've made a bit of progress in that we have been allowed to get a garage of our choice to provide a repair quote- so may be lucky and get it repaired and back on the road. If this doesn't progress though, we'll follow your advice.0
