Lenovo Bitlocker Issue

Options
Hi having issues with a Lenovo Windows 10) Ideapad 100s where the laptop is stuck on a Bitlocker login screen. I do not have the 48 digit key to unlock it. Was never given a 48 digit key - I think this is a known issue with this pc.

Can anyone tell me how to reinstall Windows 10 on it or get it cleared so its a clean slate. There is no data of importance stored on laptop. I have clicked on reset pc to take it back to factory settings but it just keeps taking me back to the Bitlocker unlock screen. Thank you.

Is this one of those small 11.6" units without a CD unit? You'll need an external CD unit to get this reset.

Make a Windows 10 CD from here:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/software-download/windows10

Then you just boot from the CD and follow the prompts.

Is it feasible to boot from USB instead?

I had the same thing with my Lenovo after it updated itself although I had never put a code on myself. Use another computer and log in to your account on the Microsoft website. In the security settings you will find your bitlocker keys.
  • Thanks all. I will try your suggestions and get back to you.

The bitlocker key may be in the MS account of the person who set up/used/entered the correct unlock key only if they had backed the said key up to their own MS account.
I get the impression from the OP that this PC has been 'acquired' from elsewhere so no one knows who set up the bitlocker security let alone what is the key.
The bitlocker key will not be in the MS account of the OP.

By default your Bitlocker key gets added to your MS Live account unless you especially un-tick a box or select local account only during installation. By default you get asked to log into or create an MS Live account to facilitate that.

I thought Bitlocker only comes with Windows 10 Professional so surprised to hear it's on this model of laptop.
