O/S Daily Tuesday 29th January 2019

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still pitch black here, very cold and looks like we've had a frost, snow/sleet forecast for later.

DH gone to work stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly, he'll catch a lift with me so he can go to the gym.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg. I remembered to get the chicken portions out to defrost, so tonight we'll be having roast chicken portions, mash, veg and gravy.

Yesterday work started off very slow then just went manic, and was like it for most of the day, so not sure what today will bring, busy hopefully, reminders etc have gone out.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning, and thanks NMLC for starting.
There's a heavy frost here brrr, and snow forecast.

I've been awake since just after 3am, worrying as usual about things I can't change.

I'm going to Tai Chi this morning, and then for a blood test, following on from that arm infection I had last week. It's gone though, I know it has, but that's what the doctor told me to do.

I'll do a bit of shopping, don't need much, just bread and veg.

Hope everyone is ok, and has a good day. Stay warm and be careful if it's slippery.

    Take care folks

    Hope evryone is ok

    Morning All

    Thanks for the start nmlc.

It's snowing here but not settling at the moment, I'll go swimming as it's near to work so not so bad if things get worse. I expect lots of children will have 'sore tummies' this morning which means the parents can't be bothered to go out in poor weather!

Fat club last night wasn't too good, I put on a pound and a half! I'll try harder this week.

Hope you're ok Csarina, good of your friends to bring you something for supper.
Sounds like a busy day for you Nanny, I always feel the same when the DGC go home!
    Hope you're feeling better Snoozer.
    Hugs to you Gers.

Stay safe and warm, take care. XX
  • Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Brr thick frost here also and the dreaded S stuff is forecast for us too. Oh I hate winter. Yesterday was blue blue sky and sun all day long but it didn't improve the temperature, bitterly cold all day.

I am meeting my oldest friend this morning for our now regular Tuesday coffee and cake meet up. I hope the snow doesn't arrive and interfere with our plan as I look forward to our meet up, followed by a brief browse in our dire selection of shops. Other than moisturiser there's nothing I need.

Not much in the way of cooking to be done today. Still quite a bit of the gammon I cooked Sunday left in the fridge, more than enough for a sandwich with my soup at lunchtime. Then tonight I will have what's left of it with hm wedges and maybe a poached egg and fried tomatoes.

TAFF I hope you managed a more comfortable night and CSARINA pleased all went well with your op.

Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all the poorlies, sad, worried or lonely and take care if out and about in this slippery weather. xx

Went to test drive a car last night for dd which she loved they did not have the exact model she wanted in stock but they had one in a branch in Leicester so they are getting it sent down for her to see, it is a lovely car and feels solid.

I did not get in till 8.20 last night so had a quick dinner and glass of was and was in bed for 9.15, I slept so well, Yes candy I am in bed by nine each evening :o when I am at work, I do stay up later Fri - Sun but I am so shattered both physically and mentally (my job is completely exhausting much more that you would think) I need a good sleep to get through the next day :rotfl:

Hugs to all in need, csarina glad all went well xx

    Good morning folks.

The snow hasn't reached here yet although it's creeping closer. I'm still snug under my duvet and definitely reluctant to stir myself.

Last night I began to clear out the bottom of my half wardrobe, the place where stuff gets just shoved into. Now I've got a small pile of things for the CS, discovered three winter jumpers and a load of tat for the tip.

My pea soup turned into pea and courgette soup as I added my practice courgetti to the pan before blending it. Then I added a couple of garlic bulbs and more than a pinch of chilli flakes. Most delicious if I can say so myself.

Apart from an online meeting this morning I don't have anything planned. Lovely.

    Happy Tuesday to everyone.

    Morning :)

Still dark of course but looks to me like the car is a thick ice block. Luckily I threw some de icer in the shop last week so Ill do that when its light.

Like SR I had a rotten night ...did get some sleep but the bits I was awake I was heading into blind panic about some stuff in my life at the moment. Just never will understand why things look so hopeless in the early hours

Taff hope your sleep was better
csarina glad the op went well how lovely of your friend to bring dinner

It's that day again....how fast does that come round. Not sure if snow will get down to here ....seems to be more rain forecast but any sign of the white stuff and I'm home... bottom lip pout or not :D

Managed to do a reasonable amount of my list yesterday although I did seem to be on go slow. Chicken again for dinner and a portion left for the freezer....now considering the chicken thighs only cost 2.50 and the rest was store cupboard stuff that was a great value cook :money:

Nothing needed today as its meal out with mum will take a box though in case my stressy no eating kicks in.

Hope you all have a good day :A

    Good morning all

Thank you for starting us off nmlc

White frost out this morning, snow forecast tonight.

DH wants to go out for coffee, not sure. Maybe after lunch as we can't risk either of us having a fall if the pavements are slippery.

No shopping needed but will buy leeks next time we are out and make leek and potato soup.

    Take care all

    Good morning everyone :hello:
Woke up to a message on Facebook from my 'friend' asking to come and lay on my settee for the day as she isn't feeling well :eek:. I have politely declined and I am keeping the front door locked just in case. My lovely sister is coming to see me this morning to catch me up on family news. They all went away last weekend to celebrate my niece's birthday so I expect there will be stories to tell :D.

Trying to plan dinner today was hard work as I just didn't fancy anything. In the end I have pulled out steak for Steve and a hache steak for me and sausages for the kids. We will have them with wedges and baked beans, little effort required.

I am so tired today, Lee had a bad night so needed me to stay up with him to distract him so I am absolutely hanging this morning. He has college this afternoon and hopefully he will go as he enjoys it usually. His bad days are becoming more frequent again so I will be talking to his psychiatrist if this continues.

Glad to hear your op went well csarina, am I right in thinking it was a cataract you had done? What a great friend to make you dinner xx

Hope you had a more comfortable night Taff, hopefully the drains will be out soon and you will feel better xx

Well, no white stuff here thank goodness but it is very cold. I shall be wrapping up warm today and I need to wash my hair as well. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

dumpling, well done re the friend, I hope you manage to get Lee some extra help.

Redruby, I think your job sounds very tiring, especially as you're working in the cold.

Csarina, glad the op went well.

We spent yesterday evening at A & E. Steve's temp went up and they are adamant you need IV antibiotics straight away. Give them there due they did administer the drip fairly quickly but then we had a four hour wait to see a Dr who ordered more bloods, a chest x-ray and urine test. We finally got away about 1.00am and ended up eating (or not in my case as it was horrible) a McDonalds then.

Steve's temp is still quite high so we'll probably speak to the hospital in a little while and see if they want us to do anything. He was given oral ant-b's to bring home.
