SDLT conundrum

It should work well for SDLT if you sell your property, then move into his (without acquiring any share in his), then he sells his property and you then buy together.
If it is you who owns the let property then you must buy your new home within three years of the sale of your current home.
Ah thanks for this, I can't move into his as I have 2 boys at school and college here (40 minutes away) so need to stay in catchment and we can't fit into his unfortunately, so I do need to rent a place for me and the boys before we buy a big enough place for all of us, will that still be ok?
It should in theory only be a few months after I go into rented before his sells and we can all get into one place, so I'm certain we'll not need to worry about the 3 year deadline but it's good to have it in mind thank you!0 -
It would not matter for the SDLT issues if you move temporarily into a rented property for the kind of period you are talking about.0
