Help with running of communial hall

Options
I live in a housing assosiation's sheltered scheme , now the communial hall was run by a committee but our HA desided that we couldn't have a committee about 2 years ago and our money , almost £2,500 was supposed to be put in safe keeping by the HA . Now it appears that during that time a woman who lives in a privately rented house by the scheme has wormed her way into the scheme and become a sort of unelected treasurer , today at a meeting it seems that most people think she's great as she organises days out / breakfast club etc BUT one resident asked if he could see the accounts to which she said there are no books as we are " self funding " we have no idea if what happens to any money not used up for the breakfast club , bingo night , day trips or parties goes . The HS representative at the meeting see nothing wrong in this or really cares . We know that the HS no longer has the £2500 but most of the more elderly tenants are just happy that someone is putting on events for them and seem blinded by the fact there are no accounts . I'm not saying there's anything dishonest going on but would expect that we could look at a set of accounts for what is , in the end , our money . Is there anything that the few of us tenants that aren't "fooled" , that might be the wrong word , by her helpfulness , do .

Put a complaint in writing to your estate manager - if you have one or the area manager. Do everything in writing, ask questions demand answers. Hold a meeting for residents who do understand what has happened about the missing money and gain people's opinions on the issue. If this woman has spent the money, then no books etc. She should have receipts of what she has spent, when and where. This money is community money and you have a right to know where it has gone.

I'm familiar with these HA schemes a relative lives in one and the management live in cloud cuckoo land most of the time.

The scheme manager is absolutely useless and most of the tenants are elderly and even though they can't be , believe if they rock the boat they will be evicted

Sounds all too familiar. Good at having endless meetings and training days but nothing changes. I wouldn't be surprised if this HA began with a H!
