Help - EDF rates
Options
Just opened my mail from yesterday and I am in shock.
EDF Energy electricity rate:
Period 8-Aug 07 - 7-Nov 07 £256.79
Now I appreciate that it's an estimate however I just checked the meters and their estimates are soooo far out it makes me laugh.
Previous meter reading
Day - 48172 C
Night - 85044 C
Latest Estimated meter reading
Day - 49262 E
Night - 85774 E
Real reading today
Day - 48557
Night - 85194
I also have another query as such. We moved in on 2nd July and were going on a 12 month rent basis however we both need to move out after the 6 month period. When I tell EDF we are vacting the premises what happens with the bill, do we pay it all off on the exact 6 month date ? or will they do something else ??
Cheers
Mat

Hi,
When you move out you tell them & give your reading (make sure you hold onto it though just incase you have a dispute later with them). Thats it, then close your account and send you a bill. You then send a cheque, pay by BGC etc or on your DD if they ask if they can sweap for the total.
They can bill you for any time of occupation whether it's a week or 20 years.
If you are with them at the new property they may agree to let you pay it in installments on a new account (providing it's not a PP meter)
Estimates are just that. You should always give them a reading every quarter when you get the bill. Looks like you did from your post.
However, until you have been with them for a year or 2, they have no pattern of usage and the estimates are vague. Some Suppliers also estimate based on the last 1-2 years including a previous tenant which is obviously flawed as it doesn't take into account how many occupants & how many devices they share.
Estimates can be way too high or way too low. Until you've been with them a while, you can't expect any more than that.
Always take and give you readings (and keep the pattern somewhere safe for later disputes or purely to understand your yearly spending patterns):rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
That's great information, thank you kindly.0

I'd even take a photo of the meter when you leave ! I have a tenant who was daft enough NOT to take his meter readings when he moved in or out, and the utility company is claiming he spent £800 in 3 months. He's got no proof whatsoever and he can't prove that the numbers the letting agency took were right or wrong.0

True, a photo will work but makesure you stick the paper in the shot. Even then, you could be holding an old paper to push the reading back. So, it all comes down to how much of a dispute is in place.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
