paying back disability grant

Have accepted a offer on my mums flat but local council have to be paid back a disability facilities grant can we pay this after the sale has gone through or does it have to be paid before.would non payment stop the sale going ahead

    "Simultaneously" rather than "before" or "after" - it would normally be paid off by your solicitor from the sale proceeds.

    As davidmcn says, these are treated like a mortgage and redeemed on completion.

    However, check the actual charge document as often they only have to be paid back if the property is disposed of within a certain number of years.
