Help working out heating cost

Hi there

Was wondering if someone could help me out? I’m trying to work out what my heating costs an hour to run. My unit value is useless to me as my meter reads cm3 and I have no idea how to convert because I can’t make sense of what a unit is based on

I put my rasdiators on for exactly one hour. At the start my meter read
07788 (532) and after an hour read 07790 (149) any ideas on what that cost me? Unit price is 2.14p - first time I’ve had to pay my own bills, so quite ignorant of how it all works! Thank you!!

    my meter reads cm3
    Really? 1cm3 = 1/1000000 m3 = 0.000035 cub.foot

    Metric Gas Meters
These are the most common and newest type of gas meters in the UK. These measure gas consumption in Cubic Metres (M3). On this type of meter, ‘Cubic Metres’ or ‘M3′ will be written on the display.

Its a very short period in time in which you would normally ignore the figures in brackets

    07790 - 07788 = 2

    x 11.2 = 22.4 Kwh

    but 07790.149 - 07788.532 = 1.617 units x 11.2 = 18.11 kwh
    at 2.14p =38.75p

The workings should be shown on your bill

Normally it's a long period when you ignore them, not short.
    In this case it's 2.000 vs 1.617 - 23% difference (error)

    Did you mean "not ignore"?

You could really mislead yourself by taking one hour like this.

For this hour (from cold) the boiler will be running flat out. After a while the thermostats on the radiators, wall and boiler all play their part. Additionally the boiler will be heating your domestic hot water.

Run your system for a week and use the readings at start and finish (and ignore the figures in brackets)

During a week changes in the outside temperature can make a big difference. Roughly, each degree in Celsius makes 10% difference in heating.
  • I don’t put my heating on every day though, so I wanted to know what one hour was because even when I do have my heating on, it’s still only for about an hour anyway.
