I have an android tablet that I use as a gps using Google Maps and can download Google maps to it from my wifi at home for use offline.
I recently bought an Android phone (Nokia-1) with gps which works if I set the start and ending place while connected to my wifi at home.
However the option to download Google maps for using offline in Google maps is not available in the menu.
Is that option not available because it is a phone and not a tablet?

Not sure about Android, but on Apple devices when you click on offline maps there is a settings icon at the top right.
This can be set to download offline maps over WiFi only or using data as well.0 -
I've just noticed that my tablet has Google Maps and my phone has Google Maps Go.
They are not the same that is why I cannot download the maps.:oover 73 but not over the hill.0 -
Google maps go comes preinstalled on Oreo and is extremely small in both terms of storage and memory usage.
You can download the standard Google maps from the Play store assuming your phone has the capability to run the larger program.
Update - your phone has Oreo Go installed which is a cut down version of Oreo. It is designed for phones with limited capacity (and your Nokia 1 has only got 1gb of ram). Therefore it is unlikely that you will be able to get the full version of Google maps to run on your phone.0 -
There's nothing to stop you installing the "full" Google Maps on your phone, its just the offline maps can take up quite a bit of space so you may be better increasing the storage space by SD card and be prepared to take potentially a performance hit (you can always uninstall it later).
1Gb of RAM isn't the be all and end all, that phone has 8Gb of storage, half of which is taken up by Android alone. You can get an SD card to put in, format as internal storage and provide more space for apps and data.0
