Advice re solicitor incompetency

We have had a rocky ride buying our freehold. We started the process 2 years ago.
6 months ago everything was completed. However, I should add that we lost our remortgage due to our solicitor's incompetency. They agreed to give us compensation. We accepted. We thought that was that.
Roll on 6 months and we wondered why we hadn't received our official documents from them. I'm unclear why we haven't, although they said there was a problem but that they were sending them now.
At the same time they said they were attaching ANOTHER completion statement with an extra cost of £40 which they said they had forgotten to include.
Now, over a few months we had received about 5 of these "completion statements" because they kept doing them wrong. In July, we had what we thought was correct and final and we paid in full. In September we complained to them about the way the case had been handled and we settled the case with compensation. The MD also said, "we will not look to you for any further Land Registry costs". This is because part of our complaint was being told we'd have to pay something else, which we were honestly not convinced was true. But the rest of the complaint was other stuff.
Basically, we're just furious that this case is not closed. What is to stop them from coming back in 6 months time with ANOTHER completion statement requesting MORE money?

There are 2 elements to their fees - their own costs, and 3rd party costs, such as the Land Registry. Whilst they can easily write off their own costs/fees due to providing a poor service, they could still charge you for LR costs which they have no control over - for example if there was a fee associated with filing a form, they could pass on the filing fee (the form's got to be filed), but not charge you for filling in the form.
The MD is therefore confirming that they're not going to come back with these 3rd party costs, and the matter is completely closed - thank you and goodnight.
Besides, if they did come back, you'd have grounds for another complaint, which you'd probably win, and they'd have to pay out. It's therefore not in their interests to pursue this one.0 -
Thanks Tim. That is what we thought. I also just checked the wording of the compensation and the MD wrote it was "in full and final settlement" which I would assume means that's the end of the matter.0
