VW Emissions Slater & Gordon threatening emails

You are drip-feeding information. If you'd laid all these emails and letters out at the start it would make it much easier for people to advise you. You've posted paragraph 4 which is about cancellation but what does the rest of the client agreement say, specifically about costs?
You have nothing to worry about if you sent the letter off to arrive within the cancellation period. Did you honestly send the letter? To be honest, it would have been simpler and quicker to use the email or phone option but too late now. If you did sent it, did you do so well within 14 days of the letter? Did you get proof of postage? It sounds like you're trying to convince me of your case but it's not me that needs convincing.0 -
Just spoke to a legal representative through my home insurance, its scare tactics, the more clients they have on board the more money they get, they have already been fined over similar cases and not making terms clear. Also any agreement would have been with Harcus Sinclair who passed details to Slater and Gordon without informing any expressions of interest. They will need to prove that my case costings before they bill me. Also lots of people have pulled out if they go down that root then complaints will come in thick and fast to Legal Ombudsman who are already investigating no win no fee companies.0

You're fine then, stop worrying.
Next time, read what you're signing up to. Remember it was you that gave them the information in the first place, they didn't hack you.0 -
Send them a Subject Access Request asking to see all the personal data they have about you. That will show if they received your cancellation instruction.
Then you need to give everyone here all the information not just edited highlights.0 -
All solved with a call to the home insurer, apparently.Send them a Subject Access Request asking to see all the personal data they have about you. That will show if they received your cancellation instruction.

We were all posting at the same time lol. It might be worth sending a SAR anyway just as a belt and braces exercise.0 -
Hi I am getting the same threatening emails but they have my car reg and obviously my details and I don’t want to continue with this but they are threatening me with barrister costs I don’t know what to do0

See post #13.
Did you even read the thread? Or did you just search, find it and post a "me too" comment?0 -
Hi sorry for the late reply, I have stopped having the threatening emails after requesting an SAR and copy of what has been submitted to the courts so far as per their emails. They have no signature or electronic signatures on any paperwork and basic info like name, address, email and car reg which co insides with the initial expressions of interest 'put the feelers out'. They had no further information that would link me to any agreement regarding costs etc. They have sent these emails to thousands and scared many including myself claiming they had submitted my case to court and If I don't SIGN UP (this being the key) they cannot go any further. They hounded for me to register on the Client portal and fill in details, had you have done all that and ticked a box to agree their t&cs within the portal then potentially that's your agreement if you haven't they are trying their luck. Their own basic information that they had on me with no details of any submissions to any court put them in a difficult situation especially when the new GDPR Compliance came into force last year. The information isn't enough to take to court as an individual case as they so highlight in their emails. The emails are touting for more information to put you in a position where they can claw back costs or take a commission out of what you may get. However, they aren't complying with those new rights and would NOW need your permission for any further information and what they will use it for and also ask to perform checks on you. After receiving my documents after requesting an SAR, it was quite laughable and I asked them AGAIN why was a search on my credit file performed without permission or any consent. I have had no reply nor have I had any further correspondence from Slater and Gordon. May be worth requesting an SAR and they may stop hassling you.0

That's good. It's a good lesson for others - a company can't hassle you if you don't jump on the compo bandwagon without checking it out properly in the first place.Hi sorry for the late reply, I have stopped having the threatening emails after requesting an SAR and copy of what has been submitted to the courts so far as per their emails.
