Total Heating Total Control

Has anyone experience of Total Heating Total Control electricity?
I believe it to be similar to Economy 7 in that the electricity is cheaper at nighttime (and a boost during the afternoon) for storeage heaters etc. I also believe that it was only installed by the former North of Scotland Hydro Electric Board which is now subsumed into SSE. There is another meter for normal "daytime" use.
My present supplier does not offer a tariff which differentiates between the two and while it is a competitive rate for normal "daytime" use, it is not for nighttime use.
SSE will offer a tariff for the two but I would like to compare this if possible. Has anyone experience of switching to a company, other than SSE, which can offer a tariff for daytime and nighttime use.

As far as I know , THTC is a specialised tariff which was only supplied by one energy company up in Scotland and they control when you get cheap rate energy for anything up to 12 hours BUT it's dependent on the weather forcasts so you dont know when you'll be getting it. It's designed for storage heating systems and there may possibly be another heating circuit which supplies energy at the lower rate. All other leccy in the house is at the higher rate.

There is no actual equivalent available from any other supplier so your only option is to swap to eithe an e7 or E10 tariff (if there's one available). You will probably have to have some rewiring done and possibly a meter change - have a look at the SSE website to see whaat they have to say.

You really need to do your sums to see if going onto a fixed E7/E10 would be cost effective and whether your heaters have enough capacity to store all your heating need during the off peak period - 7 hours overnight one go instead of possibly 12 hours spread through the day, otherwise you'll end up paying peak rate prices to heat the place if the storgae heaters cant cope.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
