Equiniti Shareview Repayment fee for 30p

I had some shares in Friends Provident some years ago. I apparently had a dividend of £5.30 owed to me by them.

This morning I got a letter from a company - Equiniti Shareview - saying that they were tasked with taking over finding lost dividends to pay to people. They have charged me a £5 management fee from June 2018 to June 2019 for this. Apparently they sent me a letter a few months ago.

They now want to charge me an unknown fee to pay me 30p. Otherwise there will be a £10 charge in June.

I knew nothing of this. I assume this was a scam company at first but apparently it is legit.

I appear to have no choice but to pay them £10.

I tried ringing them this morning but cannot get through. I did a google online and this company gets very poor ratings from UKTrustpilot.

I am now concerned that I am going to end up with a massive bill from this company over 30p.

FYI, I eventually got through to a human being after trying various phone numbers.

I could have a cheque for the 30p for free or donate it, for free, to a charity. I asked several times for them to confirm that there would be no charge or any further charges. The guy on the phone confirmed this.

If anyone is looking in the future the telephone number I contacted it is:

0371 384 2056 - it appears to be Friends Provident specific number at Equiniti.

I hope you checked all the contact details on the letter are the same as those of the company you know to be real.
