How do you conserve natural resources?

What are your favorite ways to cut consumption on precious resources like water, gas and food? By cutting consumption, you naturally save money. My recent house purchase has crushed me in terms of consumption. I now have a gas bill of $250/month in winter and $150/month in electric. My house was built in the late 60's/early 70's, so I definitely feel like it is sub-optimally configured for conserving resources.
