Great dogs retrievers. We had two but sadly lost his twin brother to cancer a couple of years ago. :(

:( Oh, don't - I well up easily. I can't imagine being without my baby! He's 8 now. Did you get another dog?

Good idea, nothing weird about that though they might call a shrink or suggest you fold the dog up and keep it behind the seat..

I had a Citroen zx hatchback then a zx estate which I expect are a similar size to a golf. A retriever was ok in the hatchback but much happier in the estate due it being slightly longer and the squarer back. I can't remember how high the lip was on the hatchback was but the lack of a lip in the estate and the extra distance to the seat backs made it easier for the dog getting in and out.

Thank you. It'll look especially odd when I try to replicate the cardboard cut out jumping in the boot.... :)

I had a MPV for ages so just want to avoid anything like an estate or SUV. I totally understand why these would be better though.

The lip on the Golf is almost level with the floor in it's adjusted position.

why not a golf estate? Hatch wont be big enough for your dog

I'd prefer to avoid estates if possible but of course, I'm not going to sacrifice the safety of my dog.

What about an Octavia, same running gear as Golf, massive boot and much cheaper.

You've opened up a can of worms! Yes, I've considered Skoda but the person paying for it is stuck in the 90s perceptions of the manufacturer. Basically, an annoying brand snob and it pi**** me off!
