I have used this company and the meat is delicious. The last day for ordering is 19/12/07 with free delivery. They have a ribe eye roast for £21.00.
    Hope this helps

Their beef is good and I do use them occassionally, however most of their meat is very expensive, especially as it's not organic and the pork is RSPC freedom which is only a very basic set of 'aspirations'. For example the rib-eye roast above is just under 1kg so £21 per kg - that's double the price of a local farm near me who sell a boned, rolled rib of beef roast for £10 per kg - and it's Highland cattle beef, which are slower growing and hence more expensive to raise. They also sell Xmas geese for a very reasonable £5 per kg - however they sold out in mid July!

However I did order some beef rib trim (makes great stews) and 2 free-range chickens from Donald Russell last weekend as they had 20% off everything and free delivery.

  • OH and I had decided Christmas Day was just going to be about the kids this year and not about us overindulging or buying unnecessary nibbley bits because we just can't afford it. So I was going to defrost a whole duck that I have in the freezer (which was a half price bargain at £4). But last night I struck Turkey in Sainsburys!! There was a Turkey Crown in the reduced fridge reduced to £7.70 from £15.55, I wasn't prepared to pay that much but I knew they would reduce it again if it didn't go, so I spent a good half hour loitering and then sidled up to the girl who was reducing things and managed to pounce on the Crown before anyone else did, it was reduced to £4. So me and Tiny Tim will be having Turkey after all......Yippee!! I also pushed the boat out a bought a 1kg Gammon Joint in Lidl for £2.99, so that's Christmas Day sorted. And the duck'll do us for Boxing Day.

Wish we weren't so skint, as we use to buy our meat from Riverford Meats which are excellent, but until we move house we're on a tight budget.

Hope everyone enjoys their feasts, I will knowing I've got a bargain.

I've got a leg of lamb for £5.95 and a joint of beef for £4.95 both from Farmfoods. Two chickens from Lidl for £4.00. Oooh I am cheap :o
  • I use a local (well ok localish, it is 15 mile away) on farm butcher shop. Their meat is unbelievable for flavour and to be honest I think it is comparable to the supermarket "Best" ranges in price but far superior in flavour.

I wanted a beef rib roast for my solstice dinner tomorrow, but left it too late to order one  , but the very nice lady there said she would be able to do me a bit of beef for 10, if I wasn't too fussy what I got.

I collected it today and I have 2.5kg of Silverside for £21.78, it is organic Aberdeen Angus, reared on the farm I bought it from and hung for 21 days. It looks fab. I shall slow roast it in a covered tin with a little water in the base, as this is the way I do the brisket I buy from them.

Incidently we had brisket from the same place earlier in the year when MIL came for Sunday lunch and she was way impressed, said she had never tasted meat like it since she was young!

I know that the meat will be great because I trust my supplier. I often buy skirt steak from them which despite being a braising steak, can be sliced across the grain and stir fried it is wonderfully tender and full of flavour.:j
  • Well we had the beef last night, cooked as I described in my previous post and it was as I expected wonderful, full of flavour and very tender. I was complimented on it by all my guests.
  • Our 4kg turkey was £22 from local butcher, beef was from sainsburys £7 (usually £14 but they are half price)

Only 3 of us this year so not got too much!

My locally reared turkey weighs in at 20lb 11oz and cost £45.50. I got it direct from the farm.

There's only 9 of us, so we could be eating turkey for a few days.

My next challenge is to squeeze the monster into the oven.
