Have barclaycard but declined barclays bank account

Options
I've had a barclaycard platinum card for years, straight of they gave me a £6k limit, going by there monthly credit score I'm classed as excellent. I applied for a barclays bank account declined. Why would this be?

  • Have you checked your three CRA data files for accuracy?
Do you have history of missing or late payments?
Are you on the Electoral Register?
Did the account you applied for require a certain level of funding?
I work within the voluntary sector, supporting vulnerable people to rebuild their lives.

    I love my job

  • Barclays use any of the three credit referent agencies so you will need to check all three to make sure.,

It could be as simple that their system was down so provided a decline.

I find it's always best to apply for things during the working week.

It also could be a simple as you entered an incorrect postcode, salary etc. Banks use other forms of data to make decisions such as details you have provided on other credit applications. If the details vary between applications, this can also lead to a decline.

I would give them a ring or maybe call into a broanch. they might not tell you why you were declined if they truely have declined you, but they certainly could check if it was an error or something like that.

What I noticed was my Barclaycard gives me an Experian credit report, Barclays asked me security questions from Equifax.

I would just ask him give me a ring and say hey did you really mean to decline me and if they say yes we did then you can say you !!!!!!!s you can stick your credit card...
  • I got declined for an HSBC Advance bank account I applied for online last year. The screen then invited users to contact HSBC to provide feedback about the application process. I provided some, saying I wasn't happy. They couldn't understand why because I'd actually been accepted. They had no idea why I'd received a decline response online and gave me £50 to say sorry.

So, there are system issues that cause you to get incorrect responses. Just follow up with the bank themselves.
  • Did you apply online or in branch?

Barclaycard and Barclays are 2 separate entities not linked unlike eg Halifax so your credit card with Barclaycard will not hold much extra bearing than any other credit when applying to Barclays

That's incorrect. Barclaycard is a trading name of Barclays Bank UK PLC, as stated on Barclaycard's website, so of course they're linked. Legally, they're the same entity.

They are however, run separately, to a certain extent.
