Parking Ticket

Hi there,

I feel like I may have been wrongly charged and would like to know if I have a leg to stand on with this and maybe if this is even legal?

So the situation is that I parked I know a car park and purchased a valid ticket however the machine failed to present me with the option to put in my registration plate and just printed the character ‘C’ so I emailed the council who used to own the car park explaining the situation taking photographs of the ticket and my vehicle.

When I got back no tickets however turns out 3 weeks later I got a ticket in the post for £60 I appealed with the company explaining the situation and they accepted my appeal but said I still have to pay an admin charge of £15 to cover their costs. Their costs apparently are them applying to the dvla to obtain my details and blame me for user error with the machine and that they have not cancelled the fee but reduced it as a good will gesture.

They said I should have called them at the time and I explained that they are new here and previously for years it has been a ticket warden with the council and that as it was raining that day the last thing I was thinking is to call them even though I was transparent with the council.

Long story short I paid the £15 to avoid me getting charged £60 or more but I do fee like this is a bit of a con really. Would love to know your thoughts on this.

The company are called bankpark.

Thanks I’m advance.

First you've posted in the wrong part of the board, there is a dedicated and very active parking sub-forum just a few clicks away.

Secondly your post is somewhat confusing as you make reference to it being a council car park but then the rest of your post refers to a private parking company. I'd hazard a guess the car park has recently changed hands and that is where the confusion has occurred.

Thirdly, you could have fought this (bit late now you've paid) and that would usually be my recommendation but for the sake of £15 you have avoided the stress and bother of doing so and made it go away then you've probably done the right thing.
