A computer screen/monitor needed

I have a very old 14 inch computer screen; one of those large bulky ones and the images aren't that crisp either. I'm thinking of buying a larger flat-screen monitor. I don't want to pay a small fortune for it. What should I look out for? Should I consider a refurbished item? Thanks.

I would buy a used one for pennies over a refurb.
If your not fussy there are plenty of decent size monitors going cheap. I have a 22" one in the cupboard that i never use.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
What sort of computer are you using that on! A 14" CRT screen may be as low as 800x600 resolution.
A 17" LCD at 1024x768 (if your computer will support it) is still a reasonable resolution for modern purposes and they are given away almost for free these days.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
After using that eye-watering old 14" monitor, this will blow your mind for less than £60!

But does your computer have a DVI port? If it's only VGA, this would be better and it's cheaper:

And it has both DVI and VGA ports. Yes, it's refurbished, but comes with a manufacturer's 3 year warranty.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Have a look at those second-hand monitors available from Morgan Computers. We've bought a whole bunch from them over the years....
22" is a good price point; 24" can get significantly more expensive.
Check what your PC output sockets are: SVGA, DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort, and make sure the monitor you choose has a matching one. Of course!0 -
I've bought plenty of second hand monitors off Gumtree, you can get a real bargain.
You need to check what sort of connections your computer has if it has:
VGA
DVI
HDMI
Most cheap monitors will come with VGA, but if you can find one with DVI or HDMI and your computer has one of those connectors, then get one.Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Thank you for all your replies. To find out what what my PC output sockets are, do I just identify them by looking at the back of the computer or does it tell me somewhere? I can't find it in 'My Computer'. Thanks.0

It looks like I've got VGA and a DVI connections. If I had any other type connections, would they be bundled right next to the VGA and DVI connections?0

Very suspicious, not a business yet have over 60 identical monitors available £27.66 and for only 55p postage.
Only that item for sale, all sold within 24 hours, zero feedback as a seller.
Willing to bet nobody will receive one.
I bet they clear out their paypal account instantly.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
