Flexi Working Query

Looking for advice about flexible working. I am moving 150 miles away from my site office to be closer to help with family look after an elderly relative.

My employer does have a flexible working policy and our HR said such a request would not be an issue to them or that my job role would be problematic. But final decision with senior manager.

I had a meeting with boss and gave her a plan including I could be in the office once a week, and as our meetings are scheduled in advance Id be able to come in on those days too.

Request was turned down. Have others been in a similar situation?

In office once a week is stretching flexibility a bit.

How many days a week are you in the office now?

If it is 5 days going down to one day in a single change without any proven track record of working from home may be a change to far in a single hit.

Has anyone else been approved for flexible working with so much working from home?
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

It's now going to be 12 months before you can submit another request to your employer, unless they are prepared to work with you on finding a way forward.

Do you work in HR? How would HR know if this could happen, HR doesn't really know what everyone does surely, unless you are a small company perhaps? Maybe HR meant there's not a problem for them (ie just a bit of paperwork), and you took it to be there's not a problem for your department?

What did your manager say? 5 days to 1 is quite a lot.

In your proposal did you put specifics in on how work wouldn't reduce and if so what are the responses etc?
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

In certain circumstances such as mine, HR said that it does not go against flexi work policy.

I wrote up a work plan and it contained how my job responsiblities would not be impacted.

Boss said that working from home would impact the team.

It was worth a try before getting the CV into play.

Sorry for all the questions but just trying to see how you can move forward. I believe you have to wait now to put in another request but if it doesn't impact the team and you showed this can you not query - may help for next time?
