  • She wears a collar and ID tag, she's also microchipped.

We have a normal cat flap but we don't get 'visitors' as we have a dog

Our cat wore only a collar against fleas, and not for long. Very difficult to get used to. In the end - changed to another mischief from fleas.
    I love my family!

We use ones that are elastic all the way around. Easy to slip out of.

.. also very easy for a cat to hang himself/herself on a tree branch when a weight of the cat pulling down will not allow cat to slip out of it.

I have actually seen it happen - would never use those, sorry.

Nope, absolutely not. Having had a cat come home with his front leg stuck through his collar, despite it being quick release, all collars and the magnetic cat flap went in the bin.

Yes, seen this too unfortunately but with the "elastic" type collar- with one of my own cats. How he managed to get home I have no idea

My boy is an indoor only cat at the moment, but he does still wear a collar. It's partially so that if he ever were to sneak out, he "looks owned" which would hopefully encourage anybody who found him to scan his microchip and partially because I do hope in the future to live somewhere where it would be safe to let him out to explore, and I'd rather him be used to the collar than not. The one I have on him is a good quality quick release clip, reflective and has the bell on it to try to give the birds a fighting chance!

I do personally prefer to keep the collar on but I do understand why some cat owners choose not to. That said, I do agree with previous posters about elasticated collars - they stay on the cat much better, but I wouldn't use one on my cat because of the risk of serious injury/hanging if the collar gets caught.

cats are too proud to wear collars. :)
  • When we first got a cat when I was young she wore a collar, but she would hurt herself trying to get it off, it got caught on branches etc, so we took it off. Imo they do more harm than good. Make sure that they are microchipped. If they do go missing, a lot of people these days have the sense to check for a microchip! My new baby is indoors so she doesn't have one, she is still microchipped though
