Extending Wi-fi signal

My friend has just moved into independent living accommodation while there is Wi-fi in the complex it doesn’t reach their appartment I’m wondering, if short of installing her own phone line, is there anything she can try
I’ve read of extenders, boosters and enhancers but to be quite honest I haven’t a clue as to how they operate and what’s the difference. I have read that there is one that uses the electrical circuits, but again I’m lost
While I’m not sure, I would hazard a guess, that attaching something to the facilities Wi-fi would be a no go.
Is getting their own line the only way to go and any idea of who would be the best supplier. They will not want to use a landline for making or receiving calls
Thanks guys for any suggestions you can offer
Kevin

Have a look at 4G. It might be more cost effective.0

mainly use it for catching up on her soaps and likewise
she will be using a lot of data then..........so mobile 4g might be pricey?
might need to get a landline..........you need it to get broadband

If the complex management will allow and the wifi signal halfway to the appartment is good and strong (you can download an app to get approximate measurements) and there is somewhere in the vicinity of that position to locate a small mains powered box then an extender might be a possibility. (See Thats post
Homeplugs (extenders via the mains) are sometimes very worthwhile but possibly not suitable in a complex.
If you want to provide extra equipment then the complex will no doubt want to ensure it has a Portable Appliance Test, but that should be very simple and cbeap to organise. All a lot less than getting a landline installed and rented which could be best private solution but expensive.
You may wish to request the complex extends their service but adding another ethernet cable to their router ports and running it to the area not covered currently by the wifi to produce an additional wireless access point. That could well be the best compromise.
Be aware that using the wifi service to watch viceos soaps etc makes significant demand on the broadband bandwith that is shared between all users so you need to ensure it has sufficient capacity too.0
