Hi,
I am wanting to get a PC that can play the (fairly old) game Overwatch, the recommended specs are:
My feeling is a desktop is better value for money but is that really true? I prefer desktops generally as they seem easier to upgrade but maybe not any more.
Any advice is welcome - budget is as cheap as possible, but up to around £400 would be OK if that's possible, can stretch it a bit if needs be.

So, this looks like it does the job quite nicely and a decent price, would need a monitor and gfx.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080

OK so this site is interesting:

I think I'll build one using new parts, I can get something pretty high-specced for around £350 or so versus a £200 second hand/refurb that will run Overwatch but won't be as "future proof".
Components I am considering (not checked compatibility yet just initial thoughts)

500 GB SSD is around £80, 8 GB RAM (DDR4) abut £60 but I would like 16 GB
500 W PSU enough or do I need more?Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -
I have a self built gaming Desktop and an off the shelf Laptop, personally much prefer a desktop but got my laptop specifically for "work".
I used this site when I was picking out parts (and then purchased them all from Amazon), as I had no idea what I was doing and was starting my research from scratch:

Thanks,
Looking at these components:
CPU AMD Ryzen 3 2200G ~£90 - do I need a cooler?
Corsair DDR3-1600 240-pin DIMM 16GB ~£75 - Is 16GB about right?
I'd like a smaller case than a tower so motherboard will depend on that I think, am I right?
What size PSU, is 500W enough or should I go for more?
I always used to be an AMD proponent but I did hear Intel is now the way to go, is that right?
I'm probably going to get a relatively cheap GFX to start with and upgrade later, you can get a GTX 1050 for about £50 which will easily run Overwatch.
Thanks for any advice.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -
If I want to plug the PC into a TV what do I need? I assume a HDMI connection, will modern TVs simply run off a PC using this?
Is the HDMI connector on the Motherboard, GFX card or something else?
When I last built a PC you couldn't simply plug it into a TV!Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -
OK so graphics cards have HDMI output on them, just need to check that.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080

Hi
Looked at building similar myself with this CPU AMD Ryzen 3 2200G, believe it is only DDR4.
Cost of everything came to about £350, even after watching many youtubers putting together budget gaming pcs,
Couldn't justify,so purchased Dell 7010 MT, i5. Added SSD, ram to 8gb. Total £110 off ebay. Later added GTX 1050 off CEX £90?
The cheap GTX 1050 off ebay is probably fake!
Yes graphics card, HDMI out to TV.0 -
Actually a 1050 for £90 is average.
I would go for a 970 as they are as cheap and far more powerful than the 1050, just make sure your PSU is up to the challenge.0 -
Thanks, it appears there are a variety of different 1050s available, start around £50 and go up to £150 or so.
Will look at the 970 thanks.Make £2018 in 2018 Challenge - Total to date £2,1080 -

There is a few GTX 1060 at £110 on ebay.
But you probably need to upgrade the PSU0
