  • I was wondering if it would be simpler although time-consuming to convert the files once they're transferred? This is quite confusing and sorry to sound as though I am pleading but I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks!

    The simplest solution is not to use your computer at all and copy your DV tapes onto a DVD recorder, they usually give you a choice of quality. Of course you won't be able to do any editing.
    A way round the file size problem is to manually download your video onto your PC is small chunks, each of less that 4gb i.e the FAT32 file size limit.
    Its a bit strange that your HDD is formatted in FAT32, most modern PCs use NTFS.
    That gum you like is coming back in style.
