windscreen damage - use insurance or not ?
I have a crack on my ten year old Mercedes 200clk windscreen , going to check with garage but I think I will have to replace it- I am insured with saga - I believe I can get a new windscreen if I pay the £75 excess - but wonder how it will affect my no-claims -- if I will have to pay hundreds extra for new insurance when I renew then I would be better paying for it myself - can anyone advise ?

It makes practically zero difference to your premium.0

5 seconds on google https://www.saga.co.uk/insurance/car-insurance/your-cover-in-detail
Phone your insurer to confirm.0 -
Thank you all - I had found that link --- was just worried as I once had an accident - not my fault - but you still have to declare it - and my quotes from other companies than my own were all a fair bit higher when I tried to shop around at renewal time - so I wondered if this had a similar impact.0

It depends on insurer; they almost all say that the no claims discount will not be affected, but some do add some loading to the actual premium.
Getting sample quotes declaring and not declaring a windscreen claim might answer the question, but this might be tricky on your existing insurer.
When I moved to Saga about 3 or 4 years ago a windscreen claim and a no-fault accident made no difference, but Axa had added loading (which I'd made a fuss about, saying my 'free' star crack repair was going to cost me about £20 in 3 years, I might as well have paid at the time or done it myself; they resolved this by giving goodwill free legal cover for a year)0 -
Some NCD will be affected, others won't; some insurers are however asking for disclosure on previous claims and are asking specifically about glass claims.
You should also consider that instigating a replacement via your insurance means the repairer will throw in a copy glass (ie, not an original 'OE' product).
