Nerja holiday

Husband and myself booked for Nerja in May. Any suggestions for a nice area to stay. I like shops (husband does'nt) nice restaurants and pubs with music but not discos. I think we will probably rent an apartment instead of a hotel. We are not hiring a car so probably be better if we are fairly central for public transport.

we have just come back from nerja last week and found it to be an excellent option. a large enough and spanish enough town to ensure prices are good and there remains enough 'traditional' spainsh things available. we stayed at the hotel puerto del mar where the rooms were excellent and approx 2 minutes from the balcon- which is where the atmosphere is of an evening.
we stayed hb- using the facilities at the hotel cabana which i would highly recommend partivualry the evening meal and service.
only thing missing was room with a view but we spent most evening by roof pool so plenty to see from up there.
have alook on www.tripadvisor.com for other reviews- the toboso apartments look to be the best location but didn't venture inside0 -
Nerja has quite a small central area around the Balcon and church where most of the 'tourist' restaurants and shops are sited. There's a large supermarket slightly away from this area, sorry can't remember the name, which has a good range of food and other stuff - a bit like a co-op supermarket. Other shops in Nerja mostly cater for residents. I can't help with the transport, we had a hire car, someone else may have info on this.
Plenty of bars around, but I don't remember anything resembling a 'pub'......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
We stayed at the Marina de Nerja last year - the rooms were cheap (cant remember how much but we had a free upgrade to a 2 bed apartment as well) and the hotel was a great place to stay (friendly staff etc). It was a trek along the beach to the town (but I like that).
Loads of restaurants - our favourite was a good greek place (!), and a small tapas place at the back of a boat yard between the hotel and nerja.
From what I have seen of the Costa Del Sol it is one of the nicer resorts so you should have a good time - lots of shops and a massive market one morning a week.0 -
We stayed and booked through here:

I can highly recommend the company. I think the mans name is Ian who runs it and was perfect. We had no problesma at all during our stay, but he popped over to make sure everything was all ok for us.0 -
I stayed in a hostel in Nerja called Tres Soles. It was cheap and cheerful.

I hardly spent any time in my room.
Public transport isn't really neccessary because it's a small place so you can walk everywhere. To get there from the airport, take the bus to the bus station and then get the coach into Nerja, it's only a few euros.Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0
