Had a look at the Bank of Ulster credit card 9 month deal today. I noticed in the terms that there seems to be a 40 euro government tax payable on Northern Ireland credit card accounts. Anybody know if this would be payable for a UK based customer?
They state
Please note Government duty of €40 per annum is payable on credit cards.
This is a new one on me.

No, on all credit card issued in the Republic of Ireland a fee of €40 is payable. This is actually a government tax. As Ulster Bank operates in the Republic as well, this is probably why it is in the T&C.0

You were looking at http://www.ulsterbank.ie which is for The Republic of Ireland rather than Northern Ireland. Northern Ireland uses Sterling like us not Euros. For the Northern Ireland offer go to http://www.ulsterbank.co.uk They get the card for no annual fee. Over in Southern Ireland they charge 40 Euros tax for every credit card that someone has!!!0 -
Thanks for that. What an idiot I am!0

be very careful with the ulster bank deal. i had problems recently with ref. to balance transfer(see beware ulster bank posting today) . they dont seem to stick with their own definitions in the pamphlet supplied.
there is definetely no charge as northern ireland is part of the UK
GOOD LUCK

Think I might avoid that one until I have to use it. I think I will go for Nat West or RBS.0
