Tyres non matching tread pattern
I've just had 2 new front tyres put on my car. I had phoned around and decided on budget tyre from National Tyres. Went to get them fitted and they couldn't find them so said they would put on mid range one. Just looked at them and although they are the same make, they are different tread pattern and one is almost 2years old.
Will they be OK or should I be complaining and asking for a matched pair. I don't do high mileage so will be on the car for years.

It is just our OCD that wants us to have everything matching, tread patern is not important.0

If you were happy with cheap and cheerful Chinese concrete ditchfinders, then you'll be better off with decent tyres of the same brand but different models.
Tyres are considered to be "new and fit for retail" up to five years after manufacture.0 -

I think tyre companies would beg to differ on that!0 -
Thanks, I would be less concerned if they were on the back, but I changed both fronts so they would match.EdGasketTheSecond wrote: »I think tyre companies would beg to differ on that!0 -

The tyres are Avon ZT7 and ZT5, web site shows them to be £5 more than I was quoted, so not sure how 'decent' they are, may still be classed as budget.0 -

One of my front tyres needs replacing, it is down to 2mm, the other side is not too bad at 3mm.
I would say a difference of a couple of mm would have more of an effect that the tread pattern. Are you car tyres all 6mm?0 -

Yes two new (unused) tyres. although date codes are 1418 and 1317.0 -

So there y'go - two different models from the same manufacturer. The tyres are Avon ZT7 and ZT5
Avon are perfectly good mid-range tyres. They're one of my preferences. They're a league ahead of the budget ditchfinders, for a relatively small price difference - they're much, much better value.so not sure how 'decent' they are, may still be classed as budget.
The ZT7 was launched in April 2018, and replaced the ZT5.

So a year between their manufacture dates - week 14 2018, week 13 2017 - late March, early April.date codes are 1418 and 1317.0 -
Avon's (cooper) are a noticeable step up from ditchfinders.
Wouldn't worry about the mismatch, it would bug my OCD but it won't cause issues.
Only thing I'd disagree with here is you want your best/freshest rubber on the BACK, not the front... Common misconception, but worth informing yourself of.0
