No it isn't. The CASS (switch guarantee) includes the closure of the switched account.
  • I agree you can't switch a joint account to a new sole account.
You can arrange for the other party to be removed then switch the account?
  • You can switch a sole account to a joint account but NOT a joint account to a sole account. You would either need to remove one party from the joint account (rendering it a sole account) and then switch it, or switch it to a new joint account and then remove the second party from the new joint account.
  • Thought I'd piggyback on this.

If you want to switch a single account to a joint account do both people named on the account have to switch from a single, or can you just have one person do it?

Similarly, if you do both switch to a joint account do you get double the switching bonus?

You don't have to switch in pairs - so if only one of the joint account holders wants to switch to the joint account then they are allowed to do so without requiring the other holder to also switch.

You'd have to check the terms of the switch incentive, but most of the ones I've seen state that they will only pay out once per account, so if you switched a sole account to a joint account then the other joint account also switched a sole account in their name to the same joint account, you would only be eligible for only one switching incentive.
