State pension is not means tested but will be deducted in full ?

Yes, for UC pension income is deducted in full, unlike earnings which have a tapered deduction and can have a partial disregard depending on circumstances. That is one of the unfairnesses of this change. In theory a working age person can go and earn more money and benefits from this. A pensioner cannot increase their pension and even if they could would get no benefit - the only way they can increase their income is by going back to work.

I am going to bed now.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • Thank you so much for all the useful information calcotti, it it much appreciated .
  • I was just thinking, would it help if you got a job, with carers allowance I think you can earn up to £116 per week or thereabouts.

I don't know what deduction would be made but it might be a little extra money.

Seeing as you have 9 years before you receive state pension yourself it might also add extra into your state pension at a later date.

Thank you so much Calcotti for such a clear explination. I posted on the B&TC board back on the 15th about this and didn't get such a clear explaination. I would have applied for UC and been worse off by your calculation. I did note your comments, but the #26 makes it so much easier to understand.

Earnings limit for Carer's Allowance is £120/week.

Getting a job would make no difference to OP's future state pension - she is getting NI credits because she is getting Carer's Allowance.

In an ideal world yes, but my personal situation is rather complicated, but thanks.
