    You could have had a strong password, but if the same password was used on multiple accounts, it just takes a breach in one to make it be revealed,they then use that on other sites.

    It could have come from gumtree, they are highly unlikely to admit it did, or it could be from Yahoo that has been breached before. Lets say you changed your Yahoo password after the breach but never changed your gumtree password, whilst Yahoo is safe they could use the old Yahoo password for gumtree if it was the same/similar.
