Painting MDF Kitchen

We have a fairly rubbish kitchen with integrated appliances. It's all MDF then vinyl wrapped, it's been there years and is peeling off left right and centre.

We can't afford a new kitchen or new vinyl wrap. Would it be possible to take the vinyl off and paint the MDF?

Yes! I'm doing that at the moment. I peeled the vinyl off with a heat gun which softens the vinyl and the glue and it comes off easily. I've undercoated the MDF with Zinsser BIN paint - expensive but I had a tin lurking. I haven't done a topcoat yet but will probably use Wilko's own brand furniture paint as I have used it before on bedroom furniture and liked the finish.

    Good Luck!

    Hi
I've heard of people doing this using Frenchic paint.
If you search on Facebook their is an active Frenchic forum.

Take the doors off and take outside before you use a heatgun though. :)

I bought some sticky back stuff for mine from Wilko for £5 a roll. Only tried it on one worktop and one drawer but looks great and hasn't instantly come off so will be doing the rest. My cupboards are flat though

Might be a long job! My kitchen is tiny but it's part of a large kitchen diner. I've just got the topcoat paint today (B&Q V33 paint... think the range has been discontinued so was on sale) but I'm replacing the wall tiles and getting a new worktop too. I like a project!
