Independant Gas Transportation Co (IGT)

I have decided to switch from the EDF (Standard) tariff that was given to me when I moved to our present 'New house'. I have signed up to NPower and given the 'ONLINE ELEC SOL' tariff. I am sure if I wanted this tariff but when I went through the comparison site it said that the npower - Sign On-Line 8 Paperless Billing was the one for me.

First, are these the same tariffs by different names?
Second, I have been told by NPower that because ' you gas is delivered via a pipe network partly owned by an Independant Gas Transportation Company (IGT), my Standard Gas Tariff Unit rate will go up from 4.295p to 5.068p (exc VAT).

Does anyone know why an Independant Gas supplier should have been used in teh first place and also whether this seems reasonable.

All seems really strange to me but am I being too weary of NPower? Any help is greatly appreciated

If you do a search for 'independant gas' you will find loads of threads with masses of information on IGT - reasons. who charges and who doesn't etc.

Presumably your tier 1 gas prices(4,452kWh pa) have risen from 4.295p to 5.068 instead of a flat charge(that used to be £31?)That makes it a charge of £35pa.

    Hi,

Have a look at this link. IGT's are all over Google as well.

I have a IGT supply and for that reason I am using EDF who do not have a IGT charge if you have dual fuel with them. This might not be what you want to here as it seems you have just switched from EDF.

I believe that the extar costs will amount to £30.00 but I am supposed to be saving £130.00 by switching so I should still be better off.

I know you save £130 over the EDF standard tarrif but what about the EDF online tarrif? Could you not switch to that.
