From Calor to Natural Gas
Options
Can anybody please advise?
I am a low user and over the last 12 months, my total bill for Calor bulk gas has been approx. £450.
My estate is being converted to Natural Gas, and by default the supplier will be Scottish Power, although once connected I'll be free to choose my own supplier.
When I checked out the tariffs for Scottish Power I am shocked at the amount of the daily standing charge. Calor on my last bill for 78 days is only £14 standing charge.
I absolutely do not want to pay by DD - I want to be able to ring once a month with my meter reading, get a bill and pay by bank transfer.
The price of bulk Calor on my last bill (for the 78 days) is Total LPG 46 Metric x 3.8500000, Total 171.10LT, unit price 45.50, value £80.58, plus VAT = £84.61.
Any suggestions would be very welcome, as I have been with Calor for the last 20 years, any pointers as to a likely comparable supplier (just gas, not electric) will be appreciated.

I think you need the Energy forum...0

Depends what you are using it for cooking or heating? Would this not be better posted in the energy forum under calor gas than the banking forum??The world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0

I wish!
I did mean to post this in the correct forum - got distracted. Can a mod please move for me?
Say what you are using it for cooking. I would stick with Calor Heating go for natural with no standing charge if possible. Oil heating here cheaper than calor but would love natural gas LOLThe world is not ruined by the wickedness of the wicked, but by the weakness of the good. Napoleon0 -
You are currently paying 4p / kWh and 18p daily charge. You may not be able to beat that paying monthly bills. I am paying 2.9p/10.5p but on direct debit. The cheapest I can see is 3.43p/11.55p by direct debit and 3.47p/28.3p by monthly bill.
You need to work out what your annual kWh use is and put that into a comparison site.0 -

I was always very doubtful about the claimed savings of an average 14% by changing from Calor. The majority on the estate voted to change and the alternative was to replace the bulk Calor with bottles if we didn't want to change to natural gas.
Can you please confirm that to convert LT to kWh is multiply by 6.9? The lovely lady at Calor informs me that I have used 731.5 litres up to the current reading, so I get something like 5,048. The figure might be a little out because of dates of meter readings, but near enough I should think to get an idea.0 -

What is your objection to DD? If you pay by any other means then you are screening out most of the competitive fixed rate tariffs, which require fixed monthly DD.
You can start a switch as soon as you are on supply with SP, so hit the comp sites with your estimated kWh usage.
NSC tariffs are available, but what matters is the total annual cost, regardless of the SC. 5,000 kWh p.a. is incredibly low usage if it provides all your heating and hot water. No free lunch, and no free laptop0
