Sold in France & € to £

Hi all, I've sold a property in France and the monies are held in the Notaire's account. What is the best method of getting the proceeds of sale transferred into the UK. I bank with the Halifax and to have it transferred direct would mean institutions each take their piece of the pie, in handling costs, exchange rate, commission etc etc.

What's the best method or company to use to have the money transferred back into the UK?

Many thanks
Matthew

Set up an account with a currency broker
We use Currency Fair - they charge a flat €/£3 fee

Others here use Transferwise - they charge a % fee

Get Notary to transfer to your broker account and then convert it to your favoured currency and transfer on to your own UK bank account

If the notary insists or is obliged by law to transfer the funds to an account in your name, the choices are probably more limited.

The TransferWise Borderless account is very useful and popular, giving you a personal euro account IBAN,, conversion at perfect interbank rate with small percentage fee. A Fineco Bank UK account could be similarly used.

Of course, if you still have a euro bank account in France, which would seem likely, have the funds paid into it and then transfer using a suitable broker, there are comparison sites such as monito.com
