Any abbey bank staff here?

I've just finished reading the Sunday Times Money section and yet again there was a letter of complaint against Abbey.
This letter referred to the difficulty in getting Abbey to close the savings account of a deceased person. It appears that the bank repeatedly ignored letters from the relative of the deceased and also refused to respond to letters sent by the newspaper once this had been alerted to the problem by the reader.
This bank seems to appear time after time on every newspaper column, consumer forum or tv watchdog show.
The problems seems to be an inability to deal with problems as they arise. All banks have problems but the media coverage would appear to show a reluctance of this institution to solve problems in a timely manner.
I'd like to know from the abbey staff that read these forums if this is indeed the case an if so what are their employer doing to improve the situation.

don't they where on watchdog the other night leaving people without bank cards for months.
Let alone they have taken it in there pretty little heads to change my name on my accounts with out my permission. Still begins with C but it is not my legal name.
They did say on watchdog that they had put new software in around about July time.
I have had enough and I am shutting down all my accounts down with them once I have replacements which should be in the next week or two.

There's a leaflet in abbey branches with info on the new systems, saying there could be "some inconviences" and they expect it to be finished by 2008.Hi, I've already asked and been granted for permission via PM for a Help for Heroes link. Pfft.
As my previous signature said, I support Help for Heroes0 -
yes i saw the leaflet.
i queried it at the branch and they admitted that it was wrong since the database change has been going on for ages.
yet again another example of abbey's......0 -
I've currently got a complaint in with Abbey, but they are taking their time in sorting it out. At least they are keeping us informed by letter that there is a delay though. Which would be fine, except that my husband and I made a joint compliant, and their responses are now just addressed to him!
It's another thing to add to the list - surely, with a complaint, you make sure you get your responses right, don't you?0 -
I worked for Abbey for 6 months from Oct 2006 and they changed the software 2 weeks after I started,so it's been going on a long time!We all hated the new software as it was crap!Debts Jan 2014 £20,108.34

Isn't there some fundamental data missing there? A 'relative' has no status whatsoever in a deceased case .... unless they are joint on the account in question / or are an Executor with Probate proven. Only then do they have any jurisdiction over the account.
If they are simply 'a relative', as your OP - the Bank is correct in ignoring them.If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
